Poe Picks a Poppa - Adopted November 2008

I love dogs, they have been a huge part of who I am. I had been angling to get another dog into the house for a while. My husband, who likes dogs, and loves watching me work with them, do agility and other fun things with them balked at the idea of a third dog in the house. He does not typically take care of the dogs, they like him, he likes them, but there is not a bond between them.

BUT... I can be very persistent, and patient.... and finally it happened. "OK... Fiiiine. One more, but that is the limit. SERIOUSLY no more."

After local searching, nothing seemed to touch my heart, so I broadened my search. I heard about the MWBTR through a boston terrier forum woofboard.com . I went to their site, looking for "the one". Then it happened.

There he was, saying with his eyes.... I am here, waiting for you. Come get me.

I applied, was accepted to meet "Petey". He was a recent rescue, and had only been with the foster mom long enough to get neutered and begin to start to adjust to a life style of affection.

We drove 6 hours to meet him, my sweet, tolerant husband, daughter, my two Bostons Una & Tayto, and me. We talked of things like not rushing into this, if it didn't feel right, not to feel pressured into going through with the adoption. We both agreed on this point adamantly.

When we arrived at the fosters house my daughter stayed in the car with our two dogs, so I could meet Petey without added distractions from my two.

John and I entered the house, and we said our hi's and nice to meet you's to the foster mom. Then... Something happened that had never happened to me, Petey wiggled up to me and snuffled a hello then went right past me and sat by my husband. Petey followed him to the chair and jumped up on his lap. I was a little taken aback, but not offended, amused and delighted. It was very clear to me this little fellow favored my husband!!! I could feel it, and my husband could feel it, but did not know what it was at the time. He just thought it was odd.

I then did a temperament assessment with Petey, followed by introducing my daughter and two goobers to him, everyone got along very well. There were some areas that we would need to address, mouthing and bit of food guarding, nothing that could not be worked through. It was very clear to me, it was clear to John, beyond any doubt, Petey was coming home.

Six hours latter we welcomed POE to his new home. He was almost instantly part of the pack, Una taught him some pointers on how to play "bitey face". Tayto had a new snuggle buddy..... Poe took it all in, adjusting quite well to the "house rules."

Something so magical happened, it has blessed me many times throughout my life. It happened to John. I can not tell you how happy I am to watch them together. Snoring together on the recliner.

Poe bonded with him. He is my husbands shadow, he adores him beyond words.

It gives me such an elated feeling to see the relationship between them blossom. His favorite place is in the crook of his arm. I see the connection grow stronger each day, it is something he has never experienced. I am glad he is.

I am glad Poe picked a Poppa.
